Dr Philip Calder
Dr Philip Calder is an internationally recognised nutrition scientist whose research focuses on how diet modulates immunity, inflammation, and cardiometabolic disease risk, with a long-standing emphasis on the metabolism and function of fatty acids—particularly omega-3s. He has authored 700+ scientific publications and is listed as a Highly Cited Researcher.
Across his career, he has received multiple major honours in nutrition and clinical science, including the Danone International Prize in Nutrition and several lifetime achievement awards. He has held senior leadership roles in the field, including President of the Nutrition Society and President of the International Society for the Study of Fatty Acids and Lipids (ISSFAL), and has served as Editor-in-Chief of the British Journal of Nutrition, alongside associate editorships across leading journals. He is also a Fellow of several professional bodies spanning biology, nutrition, and lipid science.
